Deer, plane collide in Masset
July 30, 2010 4:14 PM Like
A Pacific Coastal plane which hit a deer while attempting to take off from Masset Tuesday (July 27) remains at the airport awaiting repair.
Village of Masset administrator Trevor Jarvis said the deer darted onto the runway and ran right into the turbo-prop plane's propeller.
The airport is fenced to prevent deer from wandering in, but the fence at the north end, towards the beach, is shorter than the rest, Mr. Jarvis said. That's to allow planes to take off, but it also appears to provide access to deer on occasion.
"It's a constant battle to try to keep the deer out," Mr. Jarvis said. "We've had one other deer strike in my memory... That was many years ago."
